Nature of work
An information systems designer studies the results of system analysis, estimates and chooses the best solutions and suggestions that are proposed by system analysts. He/she designs and applies system’s database and programs of data manipulation. He/she usually handles the following tasks:- Dividing and planning the project of system building.
- Preparing the designs of building, testing, operating, and maintaining the system.
- Defining the tools and groups of applying the project of system building.
- Documenting the system and preparing the technical conditions.
- Preparing the budget of system building project.
- Following up the operations of system building and making it operational.
- Observing the system quality and estimating its processes when it begins operating.
- Calibrating the quality of system work.
- Evaluating the employees’ performance, training them, defining their needs, and improving their skills.
Environment of work
In public sector:An information systems designer works within a group and always deals with system analysts and higher administration within the organization. He/she observes the system work and suggests the system processes maintenance. Also, he/she proposessuggestions about redesigning the system.
In private Sector:
He/she works within a group to compute information systems for public and private organizations. His/her work is office- based and is handled on the sites of organizations that request designing and maintaining their information systems.
Professional life
An information systems designer works with system analysts inside the organization or within a group to compute information systems. He/she begins his/her professional life by joining a group in private or public sector and working as a database designer or programmer. Later on, he/she can take a role in preparing the project budget,supervising system building operations, andmaking the system operational. Then he/she can become a project manager.Practicing this career needs keeping up to date with the latest technics used in computing and developing information systems. An employee usually works long and extra hours. Also, he/she is expected to work outside the work sites.
Getting the job
There is no specific legislation to practice this career in Syria. However, Practicing this career in public organizations needs a bachelor degree in management information systems or in the fields of economics and administration besides experience in information techniques. Also, he/she can have a bachelor degree in informatics engineering (information systems specialization) besides experience in the fields of economics and administration. Syrian universities grant a degree in informatics engineering (information systems specialization).Faculty of economics in Aleppo University grants a degree in economics (statistics and administrative information systems specialization). Faculty of administrative sciences in Edleb grants a degree in administrative sciences(administrative information systems specialization).systems. An employee usually works long and extra hours. Also, he/she is expected to work outside the work sites.
