Nature of work
The economical statisticist gathers the quantitative and descriptive data which related to the conducted study. These data are processed by computer programs, and then the economical statisticist analyses them. After that he/she draws expectations and ends with results. The results presented as charts shows the real economical development and allow to build future economical expectations.Consequently, the work of economical statisticist supports and justifies the decision made about the future economic developments. In some cases, these analysis and future expectations can suggest some decisions or influence on the priorities of resolutions put forward by the employer.
He/ She acts the following in general :
- Design questionnaires and inquiries to the Central Bureau of Statistics and customers.
- Respond to all statisticist documents provided by Planning and International Cooperation Commission and other institutions.
- Analyze and test the homogeneity of inquiries results.
- Adopt modern techniques in the management and development of work.
Environment of work
- Field work: after adopting the questionnaire methodology the economical statisticist tests this methodology in the field, and collects the answers in a database.
- Office work: he/she processes the collected data and submit appropriate forms and detailed tables. Also, he/she responds to inquiries from students and owners of businesses.
Professional life
Economic statisticist practices his/her profession mainly in the Central Bureau of Statistics and in the departments of statistics and planning in public sector. He/she starts his/her work within a team to work on the preparation of collecting data and summarize them in tables .He/she can later participate in the data analysis of economic phenomena and in developing new processing methods. He/she works in the private sector as in the public sector in human resources management or research offices. He/she may need to work overtime. Getting the job
This profession requires a B.A degree in Economics- Statisticist Department. It may require a competence and experience, especially to work in the private sector. For those who wants to work in the Central Bureau of Statistics should obtain a master's degree or doctorate in economic statistics. Skills
This profession needs to continuous follow-up of digital and symbolic technologies. Also, it requires adequate knowledge of computer tools used in the statisticist processing (SPSS or SAS as a program or other software program.The economical statisticist should have:
- the ability to follow- up developments in the field of statistics.
- the ability to deal with numbers.
- the ability to work for long hours.
- the ability to be creative.
- the ability to speak English.
