Nature of work
The execution and delivery of dam projects covers engineering inputs, client liaison, logistics and field reporting. Dam engineer performs both field and project work within budget and time constraints. He/she conducts field work in accordance with budgets and program constraints. He/she writes reports of design studies and investigations. As a Senior Engineer he/she could work on new dam projects as well as the inspection and rehabilitation of existing dams. A dam engineer responsibilities include:· Leading the design of small projects to complete the scope of work within the agreed time frame and budget.
· Working with project engineers and other team members in an integrated approach.
· Maintaining technical quality ensuring designs meet client specification.
· Working to meet health and safety and overall project quality objectives.
· Ensuring project financial performance within budget.
· Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the other discipline leads on projects.
Environment of work
Most dam engineers work full time. Those who manage projects often work more than 40 hours per week to monitor the project’s progress and recommend corrective action when needed. This is necessary to make sure that deadlines are met and to ensure that the project is built according to specifications. Professional life

Getting the job
Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum 10 years practical experience in dam design. Also, significant demonstrable experience in the civil design of water engineering projects. A proven self-starter with ability to work as part of a team could liaise directly with client and other project team members. Skills
