Nature of work
A payroll accountant works to process payment to employees in a timely manner. There are multiple levels of payroll accountants, and consequently varying levels of education and experience are required. At minimum, a quality understanding of math and basic accounting principles is expected.His her main duties:
1.processing, generating weekly and semi-monthly check runs.
3.Preparing and entering journal entries.
4.Analyzing select balance sheet and income statement accounts.
5.Processing job cost payroll journals and general ledger entries.
6.Uploading bi-weekly payroll entries to the general ledger.
7.Assisting with the month-end close process.
9.Developing payroll reporting tools.
11. Maintaining appropriate records on employee receivable.
Environment of work
A Payroll accountant usually works standard office hours although weekend work or overtime may be required at certain times of the year. Busy periods may occur when processing end-of-month accounts and at the beginning and end of the financial year. Self-employment is an increasingly popular option within this profession. It should be noted that self-employment brings its own pressures, including a lack of job security and no holiday pay or company pension scheme, which may prove to be deterrents. Part-time work and career breaks are usually possible. Also, temporary and short-term contract work is possible. He/she could travel within a working day .Absence from home overnight is not usually a feature of the work. Professional life
This position can be held within any entity that is paying employees and has some form of payroll department. Thus, payroll accountants can expect to find work in the private and public sectors, as well as in nonprofits, educational institutions and businesses of varying sizes.A Payroll accountant may progress to positions such as finance controller, audit senior, tax analyst, internal auditor or payroll manager. He/she works in a variety of organizations throughout all sectors of business, industry and commerce. Many begin their training in firms of chartered or certified accountants. It may be possible to change employers during training. Employers often ask for either part or fully qualified accounting technicians.
Starting salaries for trainee accounting are in the range of 25000 – 30000 SYP
Getting the job
This position typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting. Most major universities offer such a degree program.If a candidate likes to apply for this position, he/she should have a certificate in one of the following :
