Nature of work
He works individually to plan, organize, lead and direct food factories, control production processes and activities and follow-up their implementation and evaluation. He/she raises production requirements efficiency, sets up schedules of quantities and specifications of work equipment, prepares technical reports, manages and develops their skills, and develops procedures for vocational health and safety requirements. The tasks are:- Defining factory goals, departments and divisions.
- Preparing production plans.
- Choosing and integrating production elements.
- Providing production requirements according to required specifications and quantities.
- Dividing work load and specialisation for and evaluating their performance to determine training needs to develop their skills.
- Producing high quality goods at the lowest cost.
- Making appropriate adjustments to the production plan according to price changes.
- Reviewing records and achieving greater effectiveness and management efficiency.
- Conducting studies for economic and environmental efficiency.
- Studying the market, and defining marketing efficiency.
- Following-up the quality systems development.
- Providing means and procedures and health and safety requirements.

- Managing food factories engineer usually works about 8 hours a day but he/she sometimes might need to work overtime during high demands on production.
- He/she can work independently as a self-employment to provide consultations when experience is acquired.

- Starting salary of work in the public sector will be at least 20000 Syrian pounds

- Occupational path will be developed when practical and administrative experience are gained beginning from managing food factories engineer to more prominent posts within departments and institutions of producing food commodities which include duties for planning and executing productions

- The student should take some foundation modules such as: the economics of plant production, the economics of animal production, agricultural policy, agricultural finance, agricultural extension, economic maths, designing and analysing experiments, farm management, planning and organising agricultural production, planning and evaluation of extension programmes, rural community, econometrics, rural development, agricultural projects analysis and evaluation, agricultural prices and analysis, agricultural marketing, accounting of agricultural costs, in addition to supportive knowledge in foreign languages, computer and programming
- It is preferable that the graduate of Agriculture Faculty can carry on postgraduate studies for M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees at the Department of Agricultural Economics
