Nature of work
FoundryEngineer produces all kinds of metal casting from Aluminum, Zinc, Iron, Steel, etc. The work includes designing new foundry workshops. The engineer plans and designs the hall of heating and melting raw materials to create products for marketing. In addition, he/she has many job options related to the maintenance of old foundry workshops or make them more efficient and able to compete in the market.The tasks of foundry engineer includes:
- Monitoring the performance of materials and evaluation of materials deterioration.
- Evaluating technical specifications and economic factors related to foundry works.
- Analyzing the causes of product failure and find proper solutions.
- Reviewing production plans for new products and giving recommendations for material selection depending on goals.
- Defining proper methods for materials production.
- Modifying of the properties of metal alloys through mechanical or heat treatment.
- Preparing tenders for all works related to metalworking and evaluating offers technically.
- Evaluating employee’s performance and defining their needs for training and developing of their skills.
- Ensuring the availability of occupational health and safety tools.
Environment of work
- The FoundryEngineer works at office or workshops and factories. Office work may include project management, design of foundries or castings and cost estimation. On factory site, the engineer supports all works related to foundry to ensure the highest quality.
- The engineer works for 8 hours daily except weekends and official holidays.
- He/she may have to work overtime even on holidays especially when there is workrequires long time.
- The engineer may travel to meet other engineers and partners or customers and suppliers. Hence, communication skills are important.
- The engineer uses modern technology such as LASER and some software and automation, which help in produce and process design and control. The engineer has to be up-to-date with modern trends.
- The uniform has to be according to the instruction of occupational safety department (heat resisting suite, helmet, special shoes ….)
- He/she can work individually by establishing his/her ownfoundry.
- He/she should have a commitment to the international specification standards in all works performed and ensure total quality management.
Professional life
- Foundry work is a complicated task, so the engineer mostly works within a team to ensure best quality.
- The foundry engineer may be specialized in process automation, castings design, foundry project management, sales or technical support.
- When working for the public sector salary startsby 20000 Syrian Pounds.
- The professional course of a foundry engineer develops by gaining administrative and practical experience through employment progression and promotion to the bigger circles and departments in project management, factories and manufacturing companies.
